U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected reports that the Pentagon’s missile stockpiles are declining, saying that the United States possesses “massive amounts” of ammunition. He also emphasized that weapons production in the country is rapidly increasing.
On Thursday, August 6, Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the United States maintains extensive reserves, particularly of certain types of ammunition. According to him, large quantities of weapons are also being produced domestically and will be made available to the armed forces if needed.
The U.S. president further claimed that defense companies in the country are currently building the largest number of weapons production facilities in American history, an effort that he said would increase the United States’ military manufacturing capacity.
Trump also responded to media reports about declining U.S. missile stockpiles, warning that individuals who leaked classified information to the media would face legal action.
He wrote on Truth Social: “Those who leaked this treasonous information are being identified and pursued, and lengthy prison sentences will be sought for them.”
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that during a meeting at Camp David, Donald Trump asked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for an explanation regarding the decline in U.S. missile stockpiles and questioned why he had been given inaccurate information about shortages of long-range guided missiles and air defense interceptors.
The Washington Post also reported that the reduction in U.S. missile reserves played a role in Trump’s decision to refrain from carrying out broader attacks against Iran. The report has not been officially confirmed by U.S. officials, and Trump has rejected the claims regarding declining missile stockpiles.
