Summary

U.S. president Donald Trump says Iran must surrender in order to end the war and raise the white flag of surrender.

In a telephone interview with Fox News on Monday, Trump said that if Oman obstructs efforts to restore normal commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States would launch heavy bombing against the country.

Oman and Iran have recently held talks aimed at restoring the normal passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Before the U.S. and Israeli attacks, the strait was considered a major transit route for approximately 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

Trump also wrote on his Truth Social account that his primary objective is to ensure that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon.

The temporary agreement between the United States and Iran reached in June, under which an “immediate and permanent” cessation of military operations on all fronts had been announced, later collapsed. On July 7, Trump said the agreement had ended, while Iran’s Foreign Ministry said a week later that the agreement had been suspended.

The tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz have driven up fuel prices and increased pressure on Trump to bring the war to an end. The conflict has faced limited support within the United States and is continuing as the country approaches the November midterm elections.
