Israeli Media Reports Dismissal of Two Senior Mossad Officials Following Failure of Plan to Change Iran’s Leadership
Israeli media have reported that Roman Gofman, the head of Mossad, dismissed two senior officials from their positions following the failure of an operational plan aimed at changing the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to these reports, one of the two officials headed Mossad’s Intelligence Directorate, while the other was responsible for the organization’s Iran portfolio.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, the two officials were removed from their positions over the failure to implement a plan whose stated objective was the “overthrow of the ayatollahs’ regime.” The identities of the two officials have not been disclosed, and Israeli media have reported only their positions and responsibilities within Mossad.
According to Channel 12, the plan in question had been presented to Donald Trump, the President of the United States, but was ultimately not put into operation. The outlet did not provide further details about the content of the plan, the reasons it was not implemented, or the final decision reached by U.S. and Israeli officials on the matter.
As of the publication of this report, Mossad and Israeli officials have not issued any official response regarding the dismissal of the two officials or the details reported by the Israeli media. Accordingly, the information concerning the dismissals and the plan in question has not yet been officially confirmed by authoritative sources.
The report comes as Israeli media had previously published reports about developments concerning the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the killing of Ali Khamenei in joint U.S.-Israeli attacks in February 2026. According to information cited in those reports, Mojtaba Khamenei was subsequently presented as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Since his name emerged as the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei has maintained a limited public presence and has not appeared in public to date. It has also been reported that he did not attend the funeral and burial ceremonies for Ali Khamenei.
At present, reports concerning the dismissal of the two senior Mossad officials remain at the level of media claims, and the details have not been officially confirmed by Mossad or officials of the Israeli government.
