The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has stated that many cities across Afghanistan are facing severe electricity shortages, and that frequent power outages have negatively affected people’s daily lives, education, and business activities.
In a post on its X account, UN-Habitat said that investment in renewable energy, particularly solar power systems, is essential to address the ongoing electricity crisis and to help create stable and sustainable cities.
The statement comes as residents of Kabul, Balkh, Kandahar, Nangarhar, and several other major cities have been complaining about persistent power cuts during the summer season, saying that the situation has disrupted their daily lives.
