A literary gathering titled “In Memory of the Sun” was held in the German city of Lohmar to mark the first anniversary of the passing of Saleh Mohammad Khaliq, one of Afghanistan’s prominent poets, writers, and journalists. The event took place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, and was attended by Afghan poets, writers, cultural figures, as well as members of Khaliq’s family and close friends.
As part of the program, the documentary “A Sun from Balkh”, which explores the life, cultural contributions, and literary legacy of Saleh Mohammad Khaliq, was screened for attendees. The film highlights key moments from his cultural activities and showcases his literary works.
During another segment of the event, several poets and cultural figures spoke about Khaliq’s literary stature, his role in promoting women’s poetry, his support for emerging generations of poets, and his lasting influence on the Persian language and literature. Speakers also reflected on his enduring cultural and literary legacy.
The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the book “Mihan-Nama: A Collection of Rubaiyat in Praise of the Provinces of Afghanistan,” followed by a musical performance and dinner. Organizers described the gathering as a tribute dedicated to preserving the memory and celebrating the works of the late poet and writer.
Saleh Mohammad Khaliq, a distinguished Afghan poet, writer, and journalist, was widely recognized as one of the country’s leading cultural figures. He left behind a substantial body of work in poetry, literary research, and literature, and played a significant role in advancing Afghanistan’s cultural and literary life.
