Esmail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has said that the social media platform “X” has removed the verification badge (blue tick) from his account.
On Tuesday, May 5, Baqaei wrote on his X page that previously the verification badge had also been removed from the accounts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Iranian Foreign Minister.
He added that this action took place despite Iran having fully paid for the “Premium+” subscription.
Baqaei stated: “This arbitrary removal of the verification badge follows X’s pattern of selective censorship and what has been called ‘American digital theft.’”
The spokesperson also claimed that this behavior is part of an effort to limit Iran’s narrative regarding the war with the United States.
