At a regular meeting of the Taliban’s Security and Vetting Commission, chaired by Yousuf Wafa, the Taliban governor of Balkh province, participants discussed the removal of “unsuitable and undesirable individuals” from government institutions, efforts to combat smuggling, strengthening border security, and expanding relations with neighboring countries.
According to a statement issued on Sunday (July 18) by the Taliban governor’s media office in Balkh, Wafa said the purpose of these weekly meetings is to assess security and civilian affairs, strengthen administrative governance, and facilitate the exchange of information on security and development-related activities.
He emphasized that coordination and cooperation among all institutions and agencies are essential to strengthening the Taliban administration.
The statement said one of the meeting’s key agenda items was the identification of “unsuitable and undesirable individuals” within government offices and relevant institutions and their removal from public positions. Wafa instructed officials to take serious measures to dismiss such individuals.
The Taliban did not define the term “unsuitable and undesirable individuals” in the statement. However, the group has frequently used the phrase to refer to employees and civil servants who served under Afghanistan’s former republican government.
The meeting also covered measures to prevent narcotics trafficking, reinforce border security, and expand relations with neighboring countries.
The meeting comes amid recent announcements by several of Afghanistan’s northern neighboring countries that they have launched operations to curb drug trafficking, stating that the narcotics were being transported from Afghanistan into their territories.
