Summary

Local sources in Takhar province say that a 17-year-old girl was killed by gunfire in Taloqan, the provincial capital.

According to the sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, July 14, in the Cheshma-e Shir area of Qishlaq-e Badakhshi, Taloqan.

At least two sources from the victim’s family told media outlets on Wednesday, July 15, that the shooting took place at around 7:00 p.m. They identified the victim as Mojgan, the daughter of Yar Mohammad, who was commonly known as “Babaka.”

The sources said Mojgan was shot inside her home and died from her injuries. They added that, following the incident, Taliban forces transferred her body to Takhar Provincial Hospital and took all of her family members into custody.

According to the sources, Mojgan’s body was returned to her family on Tuesday and she was later buried in Taloqan.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, and it is not known who was responsible for the shooting.

As of the time of publication, Taliban authorities had not commented on the incident, and no official information had been released regarding the circumstances of the shooting or the status of any investigation.

Since the Taliban’s return to power, numerous reports have documented the killings of women and girls, domestic violence, and other suspicious deaths across Afghanistan.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly warned that sweeping restrictions on women and girls, worsening economic conditions, and the weakening of protection mechanisms have left them increasingly vulnerable to violence. In many such cases, however, the lack of transparent investigations and limited access to information have meant that the motives and perpetrators have never been officially identified, leaving many cases unresolved.
