Sources in Kandahar say that a former security official who was close to Abdul Raziq Achakzai has been killed in Quetta, Pakistan.
According to the sources, the former officer, Haji Warwar Achakzai, had served as the police chief of Security District Two in Kandahar City under the previous government.
Sources say that following the fall of the former republic, Haji Warwar Achakzai fled to Quetta out of fear of the Taliban and had been living there.
According to the sources, he was shot and killed(Sunday,morning 16th August) by unidentified armed men riding motorcycles near his residence in Quetta.
The motive behind the killing and the identities of those responsible remain unclear.
Sources say that Haji Warwar Achakzai was a close associate of General Abdul Raziq Achakzai, the former police commander of Kandahar.
Over the past five years of Taliban rule, killings of former security personnel have continued inside Afghanistan despite the Taliban leader’s general amnesty decree.
Critics of the Taliban accuse the group of carrying out retaliatory killings against former security personnel. The Taliban deny the allegations, claiming that their fighters abide by the orders of Mullah Hibatullah.
