The Norway national football team defeated Brazil 2–1 in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, advancing to the quarter-finals for the first time in its history. With this victory, Norway eliminated one of the tournament’s major title contenders, Brazil, from the competition.
The match took place on Sunday night, July 5. In this victory, Norway’s striker Erling Haaland was the standout player, scoring both goals for his team.
Brazil’s only goal was scored by Neymar in stoppage time from the penalty spot, but it was not enough to prevent his team’s defeat.
With these two goals, Haaland increased his total tally in the tournament to seven, placing him at the top of the scoring charts alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.
Brazil, a five-time World Cup champion and widely regarded as the most successful team in the history of the competition, was eliminated following this defeat. Norway is set to face the winner of the Mexico vs. England match in the quarter-finals.
