Some residents of Herat province say, that despite promises made by the Herat Petroleum Products Union and the provincial administration to reduce fuel prices, no significant decrease in the prices of oil and gas has so far been observed in Herat’s markets.
Some residents of Herat say that the current prices are 81 Afghanis per litre for Russian petrol, 77 Afghanis per litre for Iranian petrol, 72 Afghanis per litre for diesel, and 65 Afghanis per kilogram for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). They added that in some remote areas, prices are even higher than those in the city markets.
Residents of Herat complain that rising fuel prices have increased their cost of living and are calling on the relevant authorities to take practical and serious measures to reduce prices.
Meanwhile, Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the Taliban-appointed governor of Herat, has urged fuel importers and traders to prioritise public interests over personal gains and has called on them to lower fuel prices for the benefit of the people.
According to a statement from the media office of the Taliban governor’s office in Herat, Islamjar said that, given the current economic situation, traders should stand alongside the people and fulfil their responsibilities by helping reduce prices and maintain market stability.
Fuel-importing traders have also pledged that, after resolving existing challenges and taking the necessary measures, they will take practical steps in the coming days to reduce fuel prices.
This comes as the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, around ten days ago, called on traders to increase fuel imports in order to prevent potential shortages.
