The Taliban have announced that yesterday, 978 families, totaling 5,046 people, were forcibly returned to Afghanistan.
Hamdullah Fetrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Taliban, stated in a press release on Monday, 21st of Sawr, that 751 families, totaling 3,913 people, entered the country solely through the Torkham border.
According to the press release, 139 families returned through the Spin Boldak border in Kandahar, 61 families through the Nimroz border, and 27 families through the Islam Qala border in Herat.
This comes as the continued expulsion of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, especially Iran and Pakistan, has placed Afghanistan in a critical situation.
In many provinces, there are insufficient facilities for shelter, healthcare, education, and social support, and the returning families face shortages of housing, limited financial resources, and lack of access to basic services.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has also stated that thousands of Afghans returned from Pakistan face exhaustion, vulnerability, and uncertainty about the future at the borders and are in urgent need of assistance.
