The anti-Taliban group, the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), has announced the launch of new operations against the Taliban in Kunar province, claiming that it attacked a Taliban checkpoint along the Asadabad–Jalalabad highway.
In a statement, the group said the attack was carried out on Wednesday evening, August 26, using military principles and tactics. According to the group’s claim, one Taliban member was killed and two others were wounded in the attack.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front said the assault marked the beginning of its new operations in Kunar and that it would continue carrying out attacks against the Taliban in the future.
So far, Taliban authorities in Kunar have not commented on the attack or the reported casualties.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front is one of the armed groups opposing the Taliban that has claimed responsibility for attacks against the group in various provinces of Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power. The group has previously claimed responsibility for attacks in Kabul and several other areas.
The group also recently claimed that its fighters had engaged in armed clashes with the Taliban in Zebak district of Badakhshan and had seized several Taliban checkpoints. Taliban officials, however, said in response that they had brought the situation under control.
