Summary

Shabnam, an Afghan writer, says she began writing at the age of 17 and learned the craft independently, drawing on her own emotions and experiences without the guidance of a teacher or formal training.

She says that following the Taliban’s return to power, she moved to Pakistan with her family. Despite the challenges of displacement, she continued writing. She later published her first book, The Book of Life, in Austria, followed by her second work, From the Heart to Paper.

Shabnam now lives in Germany and provides free online classes in writing, life skills, and personal development to girls inside Afghanistan. She also organizes book clubs and educational sessions with groups of girls.

Shabnam says she is working to create broader opportunities for education, support, and encouragement for girls in Afghanistan who have been deprived of access to education.
