Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Hezb-e Islami, has expressed his condolences over the death of Shapoor Zadran, a former Afghanistan national cricket player. In his message, he extended his sympathies to Zadran’s family, relatives, and loved ones, and prayed for God’s mercy and forgiveness upon the deceased.
In his condolence message, Hekmatyar did not limit his remarks to offering sympathy. He also criticized Afghanistan’s healthcare system and the policies of the country’s current rulers. According to him, many Afghans are forced to travel abroad for medical treatment due to the lack of adequate healthcare facilities at home.
He claimed that the absence of well-equipped hospitals has imposed heavy financial burdens and significant hardships on the public. He further argued that if the government had created a supportive environment for private investors and charitable organizations, Afghanistan would have been far less dependent on foreign assistance in the fields of healthcare and education.
The Hezb-e Islami leader also stated that several educational and healthcare institutions affiliated with his party had been closed or taken over by the current authorities. He claimed that the Islamic University, Iman Mosque, Iman Hospital, a clinic, and an orphanage previously under the party’s administration had been seized.
Concluding his remarks, Hekmatyar said that the ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan and the wider region are proxy wars. He added that Hezb-e Islami has consistently instructed its members to resort to the use of arms only in self-defense.
