The Italian Football Federation has announced that it is withdrawing its support for Gianni Infantino, the current president of FIFA, in his bid for re-election in 2027.
The federation said the decision was prompted by recent actions taken by FIFA’s leadership and its policies concerning the expansion of international competitions.
Infantino had previously faced widespread opposition over a proposal to open up the commercial rights of the World Cup and other competitions to private investors. Support for his re-election among European countries is also declining ahead of the 2027 election.
