Aleema Khan, the sister of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, says that Imran Khan was transferred from Adiala Prison to Al-Shifa Hospital at around 1 a.m. today for medical treatment.
Aleema Khan said that Imran Khan’s other sister, Dr. Uzma, along with the family’s personal physician, are currently with him at the hospital.
Following an order from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, 73-year-old Imran Khan was transferred to the hospital for medical examinations and treatment.
Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had earlier said that Imran Khan’s medical examinations and treatment would be carried out at Al-Shifa Hospital in the presence of his family members and personal doctors.
Imran Khan has been convicted and charged in several cases since being removed from power in 2022 following a parliamentary vote of no confidence. The charges against him include the sale of state gifts, inciting violence against military and government installations, and an unlawful marriage. He has denied all the allegations.
Many of his convictions have either been suspended or overturned, while appeals in some of the cases are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to hold large-scale demonstrations across Pakistan on September 27 this year, calling for Imran Khan’s release.
