According to statements and press releases issued by armed groups opposed to the Taliban, around 60 attacks and armed clashes against the Taliban have taken place across Afghanistan from July 23 through the end of August. The Taliban have not confirmed most of these attacks.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) said it carried out at least 21 attacks between July 23 and August 22 in the provinces of Badakhshan, Baghlan, Kabul, Ghazni, Nangarhar, Faryab, Nuristan, and Panjshir. According to statements issued by the group, most of these operations took place in Badakhshan, particularly in Zebak district.
The Freedom Front also issued claims of further operations after August 22. The group reported an attack in Zebak on August 25 and attacks in Kunar and Kabul on August 26.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan United Front announced that it had launched its operations on August 1 and claimed to have carried out 33 attacks by August 20. According to the group, most of the attacks took place in Helmand and Kandahar, while Paktika, Badghis, Ghor, and Faryab were also identified as areas of operation.
The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) has not released an official figure for its operations in August, but numerous claims of attacks and clashes involving the group have been reported. According to these claims, the group’s operations have extended to Herat, Kunduz, Baghlan, and Badakhshan.
The National Resistance Front has claimed that it killed the mayor of Faizabad in Badakhshan on August 13 and destroyed a Taliban Ranger vehicle in Faizabad in an explosion on August 25. During the same period, the group also reported the killing of a senior commander, while the Taliban claimed to have killed two other commanders of the group.
The National Resistance Front had previously claimed that it had carried out more than 2,000 operations in Afghanistan since 2021. The latest claims made by these groups have not been independently verified.
