Ynet has reported that Israel carried out an airstrike on the Abu al-Duhur airbase in Syria four days after the head of the Mossad spoke by phone with Syria’s foreign minister.
According to the report, the strike took place after a Turkish military delegation visited the Abu al-Duhur airbase. Ynet said the purpose of the attack was to prevent the expansion of Turkey’s military presence in Syria.
The report added that the Israeli strike occurred shortly after the call between the Mossad chief and the Syrian foreign minister. However, it did not provide further details about the content of the conversation.
According to Ynet, Israel has been closely monitoring Turkey’s growing military presence in Syria and Ankara’s efforts to expand its military influence there.
The report said the strike on the Abu al-Duhur airbase was carried out as part of Israel’s efforts to prevent the establishment or expansion of Turkish military infrastructure in Syria.
The report comes as developments surrounding the military presence of regional powers in Syria remain an important factor in the country’s evolving security landscape.
