Local sources in Yakawlang District No. 1 of Bamyan Province say that the Taliban have banned the sale of SIM cards from telecommunications networks to women in the district.
According to three local sources, this restriction was imposed about two weeks ago and communicated to mobile network SIM card vendors.
Based on the sources’ information, the Taliban instructed officials at telecom agencies to refrain from selling SIM cards to women.
The sources also said that the Taliban justified the decision by telling telecom representatives: “Do not give SIM cards to women, because they lead men astray.”
