Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid says the Taliban wants to establish normal diplomatic relations with Washington and seeks the reopening of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul.
In an interview with RT (Russia Today), Mujahid said the Taliban also wants Afghanistan’s diplomatic mission in Washington to resume its activities.
He said that the war ended following the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan and, therefore, political and media policies associated with the wartime period should also change.
The Taliban spokesperson claimed that perceptions of the Taliban in the West remain heavily influenced by the two-decade war and that international media continue to portray the Taliban as a source of conflict, instability, and a threat to the world.
Mujahid called on foreign governments and journalists to engage directly with the Taliban and seek a closer understanding of its objectives and policies.
He also called for the removal of international sanctions imposed on the Taliban and the release of Afghanistan’s frozen assets, saying that such measures could help improve relations with Washington.
Mujahid emphasized that the Taliban has its own laws and cannot implement the policies of other countries in Afghanistan. According to him, Afghanistan is moving forward based on its religion, circumstances, and laws, and the international community should respect these particularities.
