The Taliban’s ministry of urban development and housing says that, based on five separate decrees issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada, a total of 23,636.39 jeribs of state-owned land in the provinces of Nangarhar, Helmand, Nimroz, Farah, and Ghor have been allocated for the permanent settlement of returning refugees and the construction of residential townships.
According to the ministry, 10,000 jeribs in Helmand, 8,000 jeribs in Nimroz, 706.39 jeribs in Ghor, 1,006 jeribs in Nangarhar, and 3,430 jeribs in Farah have been allocated and transferred for returning refugees.
The ministry says residential townships will be developed on these lands in accordance with urban planning schemes. Areas will also be designated for roads, public infrastructure, green spaces, educational facilities, and healthcare centers.
The Taliban’s ministry of urban development and housing has not announced a specific date for the distribution of the land, but says it will be allocated to returning refugees in accordance with established rules and procedures.
The move comes as millions of Afghan refugees have returned to or been deported to Afghanistan from neighboring countries in recent years, with many facing serious challenges related to shelter and access to permanent housing.
