Professor Habibullah Rafi, a renowned Afghan writer, historian, and one of the prominent figures of the Pashto language and literature, returned to the country this morning after a foreign trip.
Professor Rafi, who is considered one of Afghanistan’s well-known cultural and academic figures, had been living in Canada for some time. He has devoted a large part of his academic and cultural life to researching and writing about Afghanistan’s history, language, folklore, and cultural heritage.
His return has been met with positive reactions and a warm welcome from cultural and literary circles. A number of cultural activists and writers have described Professor Rafi’s presence as important for the country’s academic and literary environment.
Professor Habibullah Rafi is the author of dozens of works and hundreds of research articles. His works on Pashto literature, Afghan history, and national culture are regarded as an important part of the country’s intellectual heritage.
So far, the Taliban have not issued any official statement regarding his return. This comes at a time when, following the Taliban’s return to power, a large number of professors, researchers, and educated Afghans have left the country.
His return takes place amid ongoing criticism in recent years regarding restrictions on certain books and publications related to Afghanistan’s historical and cultural identity.
