Local sources in Marmul district of Balkh province say that the Taliban have detained dozens of residents following an explosion in the district and transferred them to an undisclosed location. According to these sources, the arrests were carried out after house-to-house search operations.
Sources said the explosion occurred on Monday night in the village of “Lab-Say” in Marmul district. Following the incident, Taliban forces launched search operations in various parts of the village and detained a number of local men.
A local source told the media on Wednesday, 17 Saratan, that around 30 people have so far been detained by the Taliban. According to the source, the location where the detainees are being held and the charges brought against them remain unknown.
Another resident said that Faizullah, a teacher at Abu Asmat Balkhi High School, is among those detained. However, no further information has been released about his condition or the status of the other detainees.
Sources said that the families of those detained have expressed concern about the fate of their relatives and complained about the lack of information regarding their condition and whereabouts.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for Monday night’s explosion in Lab-Say village. Taliban officials had not commented on the details of the explosion, the reasons behind the arrests, or the exact number of detainees at the time of publication.
