Spain’s Sports Minister, Milagros Tolón, has emphasised that her country deserves to host the final match of the 2030 FIFA World Cup and expressed hope that FIFA will ultimately award Spain this honour.

FIFA has not yet announced its final decision regarding the venue for the 2030 World Cup final. The tournament will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, but it remains unclear which country will stage the decisive match.

The comments come after some media reports claimed that Gianni Infantino would award the World Cup final to Morocco in exchange for the Moroccan Football Federation’s support for his FIFA presidency. FIFA has rejected the report.

Speaking to Cadena SER radio, Tolón said: “The most important thing is that FIFA has denied this report. We continue to work with FIFA, and our next meeting will be held in September. We will continue our efforts because we both want and believe that the World Cup final should be held in Spain. We deserve this opportunity, and from the beginning we have been fully committed to ensuring that this match takes place in Spain.”

Spain is currently the only country that simultaneously holds the world titles in both men’s and women’s football.

The Spanish women’s national team won its first World Cup title in 2023 after defeating England in Sydney. The men’s national team added a second world title star to its jersey last month after defeating Argentina in the World Cup final, following their victory in the 2024 European Championship.

Spain’s Sports Minister continued: “First, we are world champions in both the men’s and women’s categories. Second, Spain and Portugal initially submitted a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup, and Morocco later joined the project. We have extensive experience in hosting major sporting events, and in addition, Spain has a modern transport network and a very high level of security. Considering all these advantages, I am confident that FIFA will ultimately select Spain as the host of the final.”

According to the current schedule, the 2030 World Cup will begin with opening matches in Montevideo, Buenos Aires, and Asunción before the remainder of the tournament moves to the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco.
