Summary

The Taliban have stated that 250 greenhouses have been established in various districts of Baghlan province with the support of partner organizations, aimed at promoting the agricultural sector, increasing vegetable production, and providing professional training for farmers.

According to the Taliban-run Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in Baghlan, the purpose of establishing these greenhouses is to promote modern farming practices, increase agricultural output, and enhance farmers’ capacities. The directorate said the program is expected to bring significant positive results to the agricultural sector.

Meanwhile, a number of farmers have welcomed the project, saying that if more opportunities for farming and production are created, the need to migrate to other countries in search of employment will decrease.

The manager of one greenhouse project said that he has established 12 greenhouses on four acres of land and produces around 2.5 tonnes of crops daily. He added that greenhouses play an important role in increasing agricultural production and improving household incomes.

The Taliban have emphasized that implementing such projects will contribute to increasing agricultural production in Baghlan, improving the economic conditions of farmers, and expanding modern farming practices in the province. Baghlan is among Afghanistan’s provinces where a large portion of the population relies on agriculture and livestock farming for their livelihoods.
