Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban, said in an interview with an Indian media outlet that the group wants to move beyond the policies of the wartime period and establish good and positive relations with the United States. He emphasized that the Taliban is currently seeking a different kind of relationship with Washington.
Mujahid made the remarks in response to a question about the current state of relations between the Taliban and the United States. According to him, policies and approaches associated with the war era should be changed to create conditions for positive and constructive relations between the two sides.
The Taliban spokesperson also said that the group wants the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan to resume operations. He added that the Taliban also seeks the reopening of its embassy in Washington in order to pave the way for normal diplomatic relations between the two sides.
Mujahid’s remarks come as diplomatic relations between the Taliban and the United States remain subject to numerous restrictions and challenges. In recent years, the Taliban has repeatedly emphasized the need to engage with various countries and establish political and economic relations with the international community.
