Summary

Ahmadullah Woshiq, a member of the Commission for Relations with Afghan Personalities, says that former President Ashraf Ghani has the right to return to his country and live in Afghanistan as an ordinary citizen.

Woshiq stated in his latest interview with Shamshad TV that, according to the commission’s policy, every Afghan has the right to return to their country and enjoy the freedom to live there. He emphasized that Afghanistan is the shared home of all Afghans, and no one can be deprived of this right.

Ashraf Ghani left Afghanistan after the government fell on August 15, 2021. Since then, he has been living in the United Arab Emirates and has, at various times, commented on Afghanistan’s political situation and some of the Taliban’s policies.

In recent years, he has also called for national negotiations, stating that a political consensus is needed to resolve Afghanistan’s crisis.

On the other hand, after the Taliban returned to power, a special commission for relations with Afghan personalities was established, which has invited some former officials for talks and to return to Afghanistan. However, these invitations have so far not been accepted by many senior political figures and activists.
