Summary

The Taliban’s Badakhshan Police Command spokesperson has confirmed an attack on the Yaftal district administrative building, saying the assailants were forced to retreat after Taliban reinforcements arrived.

According to reports, around 20 to 25 members of an armed group calling itself “Sepahiyan-e Mihan” (Homeland Forces) attacked the Yaftal district headquarters on Friday morning. The group claims it seized control of the building for several hours and has released images purportedly showing the attack.

Local sources said the Taliban launched house-to-house search operations across the district following the attack and detained a number of local residents as well as several Taliban members.

In a statement, Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Police Command in Badakhshan, said the attack occurred while the district’s senior officials were on leave. He added that Taliban reinforcements repelled the attackers and arrested several of them but did not provide details on the exact number of detainees or assailants.

Meanwhile, social media accounts affiliated with the Taliban have published images of several detained individuals, claiming they are members of the armed group responsible for the attack on the district headquarters. However, the identities of those detained have not been independently verified.
