In the Australian city of Melbourne, a large cultural event was held to mark the 107th anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence. The event was attended by members of the Afghan community, as well as Australian parliamentarians, lawmakers, and representatives of the Australian Labor Party.
Afghanistan’s national anthem was played during the ceremony, while speakers highlighted the country’s shared history, national unity, culture, and identity.
Belinda Wilson, a member of the Victorian Parliament, expressed her support for Afghan women and girls and stressed the importance of continuing to support their right to education and their fundamental rights.
The event also commemorated the historic role of Queen Soraya, the wife of King Amanullah Khan, with speakers recognizing her efforts to promote the education and advancement of Afghan women.
Jahangzeb Wisa, an Afghan human rights activist and independent journalist, said that commemorating Independence Day in Australia is an important way for Afghans to preserve and pass on their national identity, history, and culture.
Traditional clothing and other cultural artifacts were also displayed at the event. Participants discussed the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls, promoting national unity, and preserving Afghanistan’s shared national identity.
