The United Arab Emirates has announced that the “Barakah” nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi was targeted in a drone attack. The incident was reported on Sunday, 27 Sawr, by the country’s official media outlets.
According to a statement from the Abu Dhabi Media Office, a generator located outside the power plant compound caught fire following the attack. Local authorities stated that the situation was quickly brought under control.
The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation said that the incident had no impact on the radiological safety level of the Barakah nuclear power plant and that the facility’s safety conditions remain stable.
So far, the UAE government has not officially identified which party carried out the drone attack, and investigations are still ongoing.
In recent years, amid regional tensions involving the United States and Israel with Iran, reports have emerged about increased security sensitivities in the region. However, the United Arab Emirates has not officially attributed responsibility for any such attacks.
