Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian football superstar, is on the verge of joining Turkish club Trabzonspor. The 34-year-old forward has entered negotiations with the club as a free agent following his departure from Liverpool at the end of last season.

Salah arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday. Trabzonspor released a statement announcing that details of the player’s official welcome ceremony in the city of Trabzon would be shared through the club’s official channels.

Known as the “Black Sea Storm,” Trabzonspor have won the Turkish Super Lig title seven times. Their most recent championship came in 2022, ending a 38-year wait for the club to lift the league trophy.

Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 and achieved numerous honours during his nine seasons with the club. With Liverpool, he won the English Premier League twice, the UEFA Champions League once, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, the English League Cup twice, and the Community Shield.

During his time at Liverpool, the Egyptian forward won the Premier League Golden Boot four times and was named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year on three occasions. In total, Salah made 442 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 257 goals and providing 120 assists.

Salah also helped the Egyptian national team reach the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but Egypt were eliminated from the tournament after a 3–2 defeat to Argentina.

In recent weeks, reports had linked Salah with a possible move to Beşiktaş, but the transfer did not materialise. Turkish media are now reporting that he is close to reaching an agreement with Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor also announced the start of negotiations with Mohamed Salah through videos shared on social media and followed his arrival in Turkey live for supporters. Following the Egyptian star’s arrival in Istanbul, a number of the club’s fans gathered at the airport to welcome him.
