Local sources in Ghor province say that Fatima, a 22-year-old woman, was shot dead by her brother on Friday after she requested an absentee divorce from her husband.
According to the sources, the incident took place in one of the districts of Ghor province, and the shooter fled the scene after the attack. So far, local Taliban authorities have not commented on the arrest of the suspect or provided further details about the incident.
Fatima’s killing comes as several cases of violence against women have been reported in different provinces of Afghanistan over the past week. Most of these incidents are believed to be linked to domestic violence, forced marriages, and family disputes.
Reports from human rights organizations and local media indicate that violence against women in Afghanistan has increased since the Taliban returned to power. Many women remain in vulnerable situations due to the lack of access to support institutions and judicial protection.
According to human rights organizations, widespread restrictions on women, the absence of support systems, and growing social pressures have contributed to the rise in domestic violence and killings of women in Afghanistan.
