Local sources said on Friday (26 Saratan) that the Taliban have deployed their forces over the past two days to Chah Ab district in Takhar, Darwaz district in Badakhshan, and the city of Faizabad using private vehicles. The Taliban have not yet commented on the reasons behind these military movements.
Residents of Darwaz and Faizabad districts in Badakhshan, as well as Chah Ab district in Takhar, said that Taliban military activity has increased in these areas and that newly deployed forces have arrived.
According to the sources, the Taliban transported their forces to Chah Ab district in Takhar using 25 vehicles. In addition, 10 private Land Cruiser vehicles carrying non-local armed personnel arrived in Darwaz district of Badakhshan. It is also reported that additional Taliban forces were transferred from Kabul to Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan.
Although the main reason for the deployment of these forces remains unclear, sources previously reported that residents in parts of Chah Ab district in Takhar had halted gold mining activities.
Reports on 24 Saratan also indicated that all mines in the area, including the Qatqati mine in Darwaz district of Badakhshan, had been closed again, and clashes had taken place between local residents and Taliban forces in the Maymak mining area.
According to sources, disputes over the control and management of Badakhshan’s gold mines have continued for several months. The disagreements between the Taliban and local residents over the allocation of mining areas and extraction rights are believed to be the main cause of the ongoing tensions.
