Khalid Zadran, the Taliban police spokesperson in Kabul, confirmed on Thursday that a driver struck a group of girls with his vehicle in the city’s Sixth Police District, injuring several of them. According to Zadran, the suspect has been identified, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.
Zadran stated that the injured individuals were transferred to medical facilities and that their condition has been reported as stable.
According to available information, the incident occurred on Sunday, June 8, in Kabul’s Sixth Security District. A white Toyota Land Cruiser reportedly struck a group of young women who were walking along the roadside.
The Taliban have not yet released information regarding the identities of the victims or further details about the incident.
Sources familiar with the matter told Afghanistan International that the vehicle involved had no license plates and its windows were heavily tinted.
The Taliban police spokesperson said that three people were injured in the incident and added that investigations aimed at arresting the driver remain underway.
The Taliban police provided details about the incident nearly four days after it occurred and only after video footage of the event circulated widely on social media. However, Taliban authorities have yet to disclose the driver’s identity, a possible motive, or explain why he was not arrested in the days following the incident.
The incident has attracted widespread attention from social media users and news outlets following the publication of video footage online, raising questions about how the event occurred and how the investigation is being handled.
