The U.S. Department of the Treasury has issued a general license permitting the “production, delivery, and sale of crude oil, petrochemical products, and petroleum derivatives of Iranian origin” until August 21, 2026.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that this sanctions waiver was issued within the framework of ongoing negotiations in Switzerland.
He added that, as part of these talks, Iran has also committed to ensuring free and open transit through the Strait of Hormuz and to allowing inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to enter the country.
Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also stated that “sanctions on Iranian oil and petrochemical exports have been suspended and the maritime blockade has ended.”
Iran and the United States held their first round of technical talks yesterday to implement an agreement aimed at ending the conflict. The discussions took place in Switzerland and were mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.
