An exhibition of traditional Afghan handwoven carpets has opened at the Gallery Enishi in Kamakura, Japan, with the aim of supporting children of Afghan refugees displaced by conflict and political instability.
According to Japanese media reports, the traveling exhibition is being organized across various Japanese cities by the Jiko no Atelier Niigata exhibition venue, which is operated by the furniture import and sales company Sanposha.
Representatives of the company said they hope the traditional Afghan carpets will encourage Japanese visitors to reflect on the situation and challenges faced by Afghan refugees.
The report states that a portion of the proceeds from carpet sales will be allocated to support Afghan refugee children. Donation boxes have also been placed at the exhibition venue to collect contributions for children in need.
The exhibition is scheduled to continue until July 21.
