U.S. president Donald Trump has claimed that Iranian officials are seeking talks with Washington and working to reach an agreement, saying that they are “begging” for a deal.
Trump on Thursday criticized a Fox News report on his social media platform, Truth Social, calling it “particularly inaccurate.” He said: “I don’t want to meet with them; they want to. In fact, they are begging for a deal.”
In another post, Trump described Iran as a “country on the verge of failure,” but provided no further details to substantiate his claim.
His remarks come as disagreements between Washington and Tehran continue over a number of key issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions, and the Strait of Hormuz. Efforts to resume negotiations have so far failed to produce any significant progress.
