U.S. president Donald Trump has said that he will deliver a “decisive response” to Tehran in retaliation for Iran’s missile attacks on U.S. military bases in Jordan.
In a phone interview with Fox News, Trump said the United States would carry out a “powerful attack” against Iran. He added that nearly all of the missiles launched by Iran had been intercepted and neutralized by U.S. and Jordanian air defense systems.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attacks were carried out in response to recent U.S. strikes on Iran’s Lark Island. The IRGC also claimed that the attacks caused extensive damage to facilities at U.S. military bases in Jordan.
Jordanian officials likewise said that they had intercepted and neutralized eight Iranian missiles.
At the same time, Trump raised the possibility of resuming negotiations between the United States and Iran, but said that it remained difficult to trust Tehran to reach an agreement.
