The World health organization says that in Afghanistan, suspected cases of dengue fever increased by 85.5 percent in July 2026 compared with June, while confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by 79.3 percent.
According to the organization’s monthly report, 473 suspected cases of dengue fever were recorded in July, compared with 255 cases in June. Meanwhile, confirmed COVID-19 cases increased from 87 to 156.
The report states that no deaths caused by dengue fever or COVID-19 have been recorded in Afghanistan since the beginning of the year.
During the same period, 23,985 cases of acute diarrhea and 14 deaths, 78,082 cases of pneumonia and 198 deaths, and 2,562 suspected cases of measles and nine deaths were recorded.
The WHO says the rise in seasonal diseases, coupled with persistent funding shortages, is placing increasing pressure on efforts to combat diseases and putting the continuity of essential healthcare services at risk.
