Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the National Resistance Front, has strongly condemned reports of the arrest of women in Herat and the use of violence against civilians, stating that such actions expose the true nature of Taliban rule.
In a statement, he said that the arrest of women in Herat and the harsh treatment of people once again demonstrate that, in his view, Taliban rule is based on fear, humiliation, and coercion.
He further stated that due to media restrictions and censorship, the reports emerging from Herat and Kabul represent only a fraction of the “countless cases” that he claims are being imposed by the Taliban administration as pressure and restrictions, particularly on women.
The leader of the National Resistance Front told the women of Herat that they are not alone, and that members of his front stand with them in defense of freedom and human dignity. He stressed that defending women’s rights and freedoms is equivalent to defending the future and dignity of all Afghanistan.
Massoud called on political figures, religious scholars, civil society activists, the media, and international organizations to break their silence and take a clear and responsible stance against what he described as ongoing “injustices.”
He added that this is not a time for indifference or ambiguous positions, but rather a necessity to support the legitimate demands of the Afghan people and to prevent, in his view, the normalization of abusive practices.
