The New York Post, citing informed sources, has reported that an Iraqi national linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and a member of the Kataib Hezbollah group was accused of plotting to assassinate Ivanka Trump, the daughter of former U.S. President Donald Trump. According to the report, the suspect possessed a map of the residence of Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, in the state of Florida.
According to the published report, the 32-year-old suspect is named Mohammed Baqir Saad Dawood al-Saadi. He was arrested in Turkey on 15 May and later extradited to the United States. The U.S. Department of Justice stated that al-Saadi is accused of carrying out and planning around 18 terrorist attacks in Europe and the United States.
Intifadh Qanbar, former military attaché of the Iraqi Embassy in Washington, told the New York Post that after the killing of Qassem Soleimani, al-Saadi repeatedly spoke about taking revenge. According to him, al-Saadi had said that Ivanka Trump should be killed so that, in his words, “the Trump household would burn just as our house burned.”
Informed sources also told the New York Post that al-Saadi had posted an image of the map of the area where Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner live in Florida on the social media platform X. According to the report, he wrote in Arabic: “I tell the Americans to look at this image and know that neither your palaces nor the Secret Service will protect you. We are now in the stage of surveillance and analysis, and revenge is only a matter of time.”
The U.S. Department of Justice stated that al-Saadi was involved in several attacks against American and Jewish targets. These allegedly include throwing a Molotov cocktail at a Bank of New York Mellon building in Amsterdam, stabbing two Jewish citizens in London, and shooting at the U.S. consulate building in Toronto.
According to reports, Mohammed Baqir Saad Dawood al-Saadi is considered one of the senior commanders of Kataib Hezbollah and maintained close ties with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, particularly the Quds Force. The report added that he regarded Qassem Soleimani as his “mentor.”
