Summary

Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani stated that he has been following with deep concern and sorrow the recent incidents that have resulted in loss of life and significant financial damage across the country.

In a statement published on his Facebook page, Ghani wrote that he was profoundly disturbed by the recent events in Herat, during which women were reportedly subjected to violent treatment. He also condemned Pakistan’s recent airstrikes, stating that they had caused the deaths and injuries of numerous Afghan civilians. Expressing his condolences to the families of the victims, he wished the injured a swift and full recovery.

According to the former president, Afghanistan has reached a critical juncture after enduring years of political and social upheaval—a stage that resembles a “national crossroads between life and death.” He argued that the root cause of the current predicament is a crisis of legitimacy.

Ghani emphasized that transforming the country’s present circumstances requires collective wisdom, coordinated efforts, and national cohesion in order to steer Afghanistan back onto the right path.

He described sustainable peace as one of Afghanistan’s most urgent necessities and posed the question of whether peace can truly be achieved through the imposition of the will of a single group, or whether the only viable path lies in the collective efforts, unity, and national consensus of all Afghans.

Ghani further stressed that Afghans must strive for lasting peace through reliance on Almighty God and the exercise of collective wisdom—a peace that would not only ensure stability and prosperity within Afghanistan but also foster enduring harmony and constructive relations with neighboring countries and the wider region.
