The Balkh Public Health Directorate has announced the birth of quintuplets at the Regional Hospital in Balkh Province.
According to a statement issued by the Directorate, the newborns consist of three girls and two boys. The health condition of both the mother and all five infants has been reported as stable and satisfactory.
Based on the information provided, the mother is a resident of Shingalabad village in Dawlat Abad District of Balkh Province. She was transferred to the Regional Hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif for delivery, and the birth was successfully managed under the supervision of the hospital’s medical staff.
The family of the mother, citing the special needs associated with raising and caring for five newborns, has appealed to relevant authorities, charitable organizations, and members of the public for assistance in covering the costs of childcare, medical care, and other essential needs.
This development comes at a time when Afghanistan continues to face significant economic and livelihood challenges. United Nations reports indicate that a large portion of the country’s population lives below the poverty line, while access to basic healthcare services particularly in rural areas remains severely limited.
Meanwhile, maternal and neonatal mortality rates in Afghanistan remain high. Chronic poverty and the economic difficulties of recent years have placed additional strain on the country’s healthcare system.
Organizations such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) have repeatedly warned about the growing prevalence of child malnutrition in Afghanistan and have emphasized the urgent need for increased humanitarian assistance and strengthened healthcare services.
