Blue Origin’s “New Glenn” Rocket Explodes During Testing
The New Glenn rocket, owned by the American aerospace company Blue Origin, exploded during testing on a launch pad in the state of Florida. The Washington Post reported on Friday, May 29, that the rocket was being prepared to carry satellites into low Earth orbit.
Blue Origin stated that it encountered an “anomaly” during a pre-launch test. The company also emphasized that all personnel are safe and that no injuries were reported.
According to the report, the rocket was scheduled to carry 48 satellites belonging to Amazon into low Earth orbit. The project is part of Amazon’s effort to expand its satellite internet network.
Earlier in May, NASA announced that it had awarded a $188 million contract to Blue Origin for the delivery of lunar surface vehicles to the Moon.
Blue Origin is one of the companies participating in NASA’s program to return humans to the Moon. The program is expected to enter its operational phase with the Artemis III mission in 2027.
