Following the remote signing of the agreement between the United States and Iran, the planned visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Switzerland has been cancelled. Sharif was scheduled to travel to Switzerland on Thursday at the head of a high-level delegation to attend an official ceremony related to the agreement.
Pakistani officials say the agreement had previously been signed electronically by Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, after which Shehbaz Sharif also signed it through mediation.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that after the completion of the signing process, the need for a formal ceremony in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, diminished, as the key stages had already been finalized.
The Prime Minister’s Office of Pakistan also confirmed that the document had already been signed electronically by the leaders of the two countries, which is why the ceremony was cancelled.
The ceremony was expected to be attended by Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, the Foreign Minister, and a high-level government delegation. However, now only the Deputy Foreign Minister is likely to participate.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar was also expected to be part of the delegation.
The event had been planned as a high-level meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, but following the completion of the agreement, its formal format has been changed.
