Local officials and elders of the Ahmadabad district in Paktia province have implemented new decisions to regulate the costs of wedding ceremonies. After joint consultations between religious scholars, tribal leaders, and representatives of the Taliban, specific financial limits have been set for the marriage of women.
According to available information, the dowry for a virgin girl has been set at 400,000 Afghanis, for a previously married woman at 500,000 Afghanis, and for a widow at 200,000 Afghanis. This decision has been recorded in an official document and confirmed by the relevant authorities.
The region’s elders have stated that this step has been taken to prevent customs and traditions that placed a heavy financial burden on people. In addition, agreements have been made to reduce the costs associated with weddings, charity donations, and Hajj rituals.
Representatives from the district administration, the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue, intelligence, and religious scholars have officially endorsed these decisions and assured their implementation.
