Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Media has announced that the country’s military carried out strikes overnight in border regions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and has released footage of the operation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said the strikes targeted individuals and facilities identified as planners of recent attacks inside Pakistan. According to Islamabad, the operation resulted in the deaths of 26 members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid had earlier confirmed that Pakistan had conducted attacks on targets inside Afghanistan.
In a message posted on X early Wednesday, June 10, he stated that Pakistan had “bombed civilian homes in the provinces of Kunar, Khost, and Paktika.”
The Taliban spokesperson also shared images and claimed that 11 children, one woman, and one elderly person were killed in the strikes.
Earlier, local sources had reported several powerful explosions in the eastern and southeastern Afghan provinces of Kunar Province, Khost Province, and Paktia Province.
In its statement, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Media said the operation was carried out in response to recent attacks within Pakistan and was aimed at the “hideouts and sanctuaries” of those responsible for planning them.
The statement cited several security incidents in Pakistan, including the June 9 attack on a security forces checkpoint in Musa Dara, the June 2 suicide bombing in North Waziristan, and the May 9 attack on a police station in Bannu.
Islamabad further stated that four targets were completely destroyed during the operation. According to Pakistani officials, these targets included a training center, a hideout, an ammunition depot, and facilities linked to two commanders of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that counterterrorism operations by Pakistan’s security forces and police would continue with full intensity until what it described as the externally supported terrorist threat is completely eliminated.
The strikes come approximately ten days after Mullah Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s Defense Minister, stated following a visit to Moscow that Pakistan would no longer dare to carry out attacks on Afghan territory in the near future.
