In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the series of drone attacks by armed groups against Pakistan’s security forces has significantly intensified. According to official police statistics, a total of 182 drone attacks have been recorded over the past 18 months, of which 100 occurred in just the last five months.
Available information indicates that the majority of these attacks took place in the districts of North Waziristan and Bannu. Security sources say that armed groups have adopted the use of drones as a new tactic in their operations, specifically targeting security posts, police stations, and patrol units.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police data, only in 2025, 82 drone attacks were carried out on police stations and posts, most of them occurring in the tribal areas. Officials state that, in addition to the recorded attacks, hundreds of other attempts were also foiled by security forces before reaching their targets.
Security analysts believe that the use of drones represents a significant shift in the tactical approach of armed groups and has created new challenges for security institutions. To counter this threat, the police and other security agencies have increased the deployment of counter-drone technology and specialized surveillance systems.
