Summary

The Delhi High Court in India’s capital has sentenced renowned Bollywood comedian Rajpal Yadav to three months’ imprisonment for failing to repay a debt.

According to Indian media reports, counsel for the complainant film production company said the court upheld its earlier ruling against Yadav in a cheque bounce case and ordered him to repay the outstanding debt to the complainant company without delay.

Yadav’s wife, Radha Yadav, is also a party to the case, and the court has directed her to cooperate in settling the outstanding debt.

Reports state that in 2010, Rajpal Yadav borrowed approximately ₹50 million from a private company named Murli to finance the production of his film Ata Pata Laapata. However, after the film failed at the box office, he was unable to repay the loan.

It is reported that Yadav had repeatedly assured the court during previous hearings that he would clear the debt, but he has yet to fulfil those commitments. As a result, the court has issued its final order sentencing him to three months in prison.
